Biography:

Mr Onur Selcuk Goksel

MD, Cardiovascular Surgeon

Born in Istanbul, TURKEY; after completing high school education on full scholarships in Istanbul where at senior high, he received an honour from Turkey’s National Science Association (TUBITAK). He has a medical degree from Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty in the English Language, with curriculum adjusted to American medical schools in the English Language. During medical education, he granted from The Board of American Schools in Turkey. He worked as a cardiovascular intern at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, USA in consecutive years of Medical School. He achieved considerable knowledge and experience at the latter clinic where he worked full-time in the ICU in addition to operative experience. He completed a 5-year-long residency in Cardiovascular Surgery at Siyami Ersek Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery Center where the Chairman of Surgical Sciences at the very center gave him every opportunity to increase experience in both surgical and academic fields by allowing him to run and collaborate in numerous scientific projects (including the GALA trial in Europe) and scientific presentations.

In this aspect, he received a considerable grant from the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery to attend the first course of European Heart Surgery School. In 2003, he received an invitation from Prof. Konertz, Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany.

He is currently a tenured professor of cardiovascular surgery. He has authored or co-authored in more than 250 national and international presentations and in more than 100 publications. He has currently invited to many international meetings as a keynote speaker or an invited lecturer. He has been a regular speaker and a faculty member of the North American meetings sponsored by ISES and Veith Symposium by Cleveland Clinic, one of the most respected international vascular and endovascular surgery societies. He has worked and operated at ACIBADEM Healthcare System, Turkey for more than 10 years.

He is specialised in all aspects of vascular procedures; both arterial and venous diseases in addition to adult heart procedures including coronary bypass and heart valve operations. His team’s expertise in varicose vein surgery, aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease and particularly carotid disease is one of the most extensive in Europe with operations of more than 5000 patients, more than 1200 carotid artery patients in 20 years.
